“My daughter started preschool but I knew I still needed Parent Education for myself. Going to the Discussion Time Only was my once a week opportunity to give myself time to think about my parenting. To analyze what I could be doing differently and to pat myself on the back when I felt I was doing something right. I enjoyed the time with other parents in the same boat as me, listening to their struggles, feedback and creative ideas for conquering problems.”

Mission Statement
The La Canada Parent Education Program is a ministry committed to drawing families to Christ, His Church, and each other.
We strive to encourage loving and effective parenting by teaching concepts of human development, strategies for building stronger families, and an appreciation for the uniqueness of both parent and child.
In addition, we seek to create a warm, caring community of faith within each class which will provide meaningful support and encouragement to parents in their parenting journeys.
What We Offer
Entering its 33rd year, the Parent Education program offers something for everyone. For children, it is an opportunity to spend one-on-one time with mom or dad, while exploring a rich and varied environment with children their own age. For parents, there are discussions on pertinent parenting issues led by a staff of caring teachers specially trained in child development.
Teacher assistants, who are also qualified in child development, work closely with the children facilitating confidence and comfort during class and discussion times. Parent Ed. is a program that nurtures parents and children in a Christian atmosphere. One of the greatest benefits is the encouragement and support parents receive on their parenting journey.
About Our Classes
We offer weekly morning classes for parents and their children ranging in ages from infants to five years old. Parent only classes are offered for parents of school-age children ranging from Pre-K though teens. “Parenting is a life long journey. At every age there are challenges and issues. At older ages, kids really need their parents’ guidance, because their mistakes are more costly,” says Jan Roberts, Parent Coach and the teacher of several Parent Education parent only classes.
The parent only classes were first developed for parents who graduated from the parent-child parenting classes and realized they were facing issues for which they needed help and support. Cary Horne is teaching our Parents of Pre-K children. Jan Roberts teaches three, weekly parent only classes providing parents the opportunity to learn about parenting children and teens throughout their school age years.

LCPC Parent Education Global Outreach
For 33 years, LCPC Parent Education has been committed to impacting families both locally (through our Parent Educaton classes) and globally (through the 10% of our total fundraising we donate to selected outreaches around the world). In 2011, we were able to make significant contributions to Wild Hope International, Mending Kids International, Generosity Water, in addition to our current outreach project of Operation Christmas Child.
Wild Hope International
Wild Hope is an international missions organization involved in the important work of empowering African women by training them to develop skills and trades. They are taught to make beaded jewelery and ornaments so they can flee lives of poverty and prostitution and suitably provide for their children. Wild Hope also works to provide leadership development, educational assistance, sports programs and discipleship to the people of Tanzania.
Mending Kids International provides life-changing surgical care to children worldwide. Over the years, thousands of children have received corrective, transformational surgeries that have given them another chance at a longer, healthier life. Parent Education’s financial support was able to provide four surgeries for children in Africa who otherwise would have gone without much needed medical attention. All four children have had their club feet corrected, which means all the difference for their personal futures. Little Samuel Njenga (in the picture) is one of the children’s whose lives will be forever changed by the wonderful work of Mending Kids.
Nearly a billion people around the world lack access to clean drinking water. Since they began just 3 years ago, Generosity Water has been able to fund 242 water wells and 8 cisterns in 17 countries serving over 100,000 people with clean, safe drinking water. Through the Parent Education’s Generosity Water bottle sales, enough money was raised for the digging of a new well in Tinkong, Ghana. This well will provide clean, fresh water for a village of 750 people for the next 20 years!
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse International, which provides an opportunity to bless a child somewhere around the world by packing a shoebox filled with gifts this Christmas. In the 18 years since OCC began, over 85 million children’s lives in over 130 countries have been touched. Parent Education is so excited to be part of such a wonderful program! Please click on this link to watch the “Power of a Simple Gift” video to see how meaningful this program is to so many.
